Wine of the Week

Rocky Pond Estate Winery 2017 11 Dams Cabernet Sauvignon

Appellation: Columbia Valley

Wine Press Northwest’s 2019 Washington Winery to Watch ended that year with a gold medal from the San Francisco International Wine Competition, where British wine expert Steven Spurrier — the man behind the Judgment of Paris — serves as chief judge. The Dufenhorst family’s Double D Vineyard produced this Cab from fourth-leaf fruit, and it’s a big fruit bomb featuring Chukar Cherry, blackcurrant, sarsaparilla and Vanilla Coke sensations. If the federal government approves the petition, this wine will one day carry the Rocky Reach American Viticultural Area on the label. In October, Rocky Pond used this Cab, produced by Shane Collins during his inaugural vintage as the winemaker, to earn its fourth Platinum in three years from Wine Press Northwest.

Rated “Platinum” by Wine Press Northwest.
