Wine of the Week
Martinez & Martinez Winery 2018 Tudor Hills Vineyard Viognier
Appellation: Yakima Valley
Andrew Martinez grew up in a family that’s farmed Cabernet Sauvignon in the Horse Heaven Hills for decades. His wife, Monica (Tudor) Martinez, has connections to prized grapes in the Yakima Valley. Their family affair produced a charming Viognier that’s loaded with apricot, honeyed peach and lime gelato while backed by refreshing juiciness. It earned its way into the 21st Platinum Judging via a gold medal last summer at Washington State Wine Competition. Last fall, it turned into the Martinez/Tudor family’s second straight Platinum for Viognier, and this example with the white Rhône grape merited an unanimous vote for Platinum.
