Wine of the Week
Nine Hats Wines 2018 Pinot Gris
Appellation: Columbia Valley
Best Buy! It makes sense that the success each year of the Long Shadows Vintners program with rosé of Pinot Gris — Julia’s Dazzle — could translate to the Nine Hats Pinot Gris. Of the 10 bottlings for the Long Shadows sister project, four of those under the Nine Hats label are produced with white varieties. Two of those use Pinot Gris. This is a classic Washington example of Pinot Gris in its tropical and rich approach of passion fruit, pineapple and honeysuckle that’s joined by fresh apricot for a finish that brings some body and a remarkably long finish. As a result, it earned a gold medal at the 2020 Washington State Wine Competition.
