Wine of the Week
Fujishin Family Cellars 2018 Late Harvest Riesling
Appellation: Snake River Valley
Martin Fujishin topped the 2018 Idaho Wine Competition with a dry Riesling produced from the troublesome 2017 vintage, and as the longtime assistant winemaker at Koenig Vineyards, he’s been on the ground floor of some of the Northwest’s best examples of Riesling ice wine. His delicious work with Riesling from his native Snake River Valley continues with this late harvest style. The nose is honeyed with hints of lemon bar and caramel apple, and there’s no disappointment on the palate. Its fascinating texture and remarkable balance of acidity tones down the 5% residual sugar as the mouthwatering finish of lemon/lime candy and Granny Smith apple makes this enjoyable and refreshing. Back in 2018, the Fujishin Family Cellars 2017 Late Harvest Riesling was named the best sweet wine of the Idaho Wine Competition. This summer, the Fujishin Family Cellars 2018 Late Harvest Riesling earned a gold medal at this summer’s Cascadia International Wine Competition.
