Appellation: Lake Chelan
This year marks Ray Sandidge’s 35th as a winemaker, and he’s spent 15 of those working near the shores of Lake Chelan. His blending here indeed translates to the Italian phrase for a “most beautiful red” as Syrah (39%), Merlot (29%) and Cabernet Franc (18%) conjure up thoughts of blueberry cobbler, dark cherry, toast and baking spices. It’s rich and concentrated while adding notes of toast and coffee. This wine earned gold medals at the Indy International Wine Competition in West Lafayette, Ind., and the Seattle Wine Awards on its way to 2019 Platinum during Wine Press Northwest magazine’s 20th annual year-end judging of gold-medal winners. It was one of six Platinum medals for Dr. Bob Jankelson and Tsillan Cellars, the 2020 Washington Winery of the Year as selected by Wine Press Northwest.
