Appellation: Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley
Years ago, winemakers in our corner of the world began to lead consumers astray with sometimes cloying examples of Chenin Blanc. Thanks to Freddy Arredondo, his family’s Cave B project has come to fly the flag for this Loire Valley grape in charming fashion. Aromas of tangerine, lemon and lime zest pick up a pinch of white pepper. Ripe yet bright flavors of Honeycrisp apple and honeydew melon are capped by Mandarin orange to make for a zippy finish and a complete wine. Last spring, it stole the hearts of judges for the Wenatchee Wine and Food Festival, where it was selected as the best of show. Four months later, it merited a unanimous vote of Platinum — making it Double Platinum — during the 20th annual Platinum Judging staged by Wine Press Northwest.

March will be a month of celebration for Cave B, which opens a new tasting room in the emerging Columbia Gardens Wine & Artisan Village in downtown Kennewick near Clover Island. There’s also the zany Caveman & Cavewoman Roar n’ Pour 5K Trail Fun Run, which is staged across the family’s historic estate adjacent to The Gorge Amphitheater. This year, proceeds from Roar n’ Pour support the Tri-Cities Steel Band Association.
