Appellation: Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley
It is no surprise when a wine by Victor Palencia — owner/winemaker of Wine Press Northwest magazine’s reigning Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year — rises to the top of any judging. That's especially true with aromatic whites. This Riesling's nose is led by hints of watermelon and lemonade, backed by flecks of minerality that essentially give away its roots in the Ancient Lakes. On the attack, it’s racy and lively with honeydew melon, kiwi fruit, pear and apple, backed by river rock and fresh mint. The finish is bone-dry, despite the 1.6% residual sugar, so there’s no denying this wine’s ability to age with grace. It ranked among the top entrants in Wine Press Northwest magazine’s judging of Riesling for the Summer 2019 issue, meriting the equivalent of an unanimous double gold medal.
