Kiona Vineyards and Winery 2016 Estate Bottled Heart of the Hill Malbec

April 6, 2019

Appellation: Red Mountain

A year ago, Wine Press Northwest named Kiona Vineyards as its Washington Winery of the Year. This year, Scott Williams will be celebrated as the Honorary Grower at the 2019 Auction of Washington Wines, and he’s a talented winemaker, too. Here, he drew from Kiona’s Heart of the Hill Vineyard on Red Mountain - planted in 2006 - to produce a deep-fruited wine with aromatics of spice, plum and late-summer blackberries. In the mouth, it shows the power and earthiness of Red Mountain while maintaining a pure black and blue fruit profile from front to back. This year’s festivities for the 32nd annual Auction of Washington Wines include the Vineyard Dinner on May 31 at Kiona Vineyards. Last fall, the 2016 Heart of the Hill Malbec won a gold medal and ranked as best of class at the Great Northwest Invitational Wine Competition. The wine’s official release is scheduled for April 12.

Rated “Outstanding!” by Great Northwest Wine. (14.5% alc.)

Price: $45
