Stave & Stone Wine Estates 2016 Chardonnay

March 9, 2019

Appellation: Columbia Gorge

The versatility of the Columbia Gorge is on display once again as winemaker Rich Cushman creates a complex and balanced Chardonnay for Jill House and her family, which will celebrate a century of farming in the Hood River Valley during 2019. There’s partial malolactic fermentation and a subtle amount of new French oak on display with citrus blossom, crisp green apples, juicy ripe pears and subtle toasty notes. Honeysuckle and lemon curd meet up with lively acidity creating wonderful lift on the energetic, zesty and memorable palate. Last fall, it received a Platinum during Wine Press Northwest’s 19th Platinum Judging. It earned its way into the competition via a gold medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest judging staged in North America.
