Henry Earl Estates 2015 Merlot

May 19, 2018

Appellation: Red Mountain

Decorated vineyard manager Marshall Edwards, this year's Honorary Grower for the Auction of Washington Wines, lords over Shaw and Obelisco vineyards on the upper reach of Red Mountain for Dick and Wendy Shaw. Both sites went into this Merlot from the warmest vintage on record. Winemaking by Mitch Venohr allows it to gush with black cherry, plum and chocolaty notes. Nicely managed tannins and blueberry acidity combine for a finish that's youthful and juicy. This summer, the Shaws both will be inducted into the Legends of Washington Wine Hall of Fame, a public celebration Aug. 10 at the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center in Prosser.

Rating: Outstanding! by Great Northwest Wine. (14% alc.)

Price: $38

Production: 142 cases

Food pairings: Enjoy with osso buco, duck breast with blueberries, rack of lamb, Salisbury Steak, elk, pork ribs or a backyard cheeseburger.
