14 Hands Winery 2013 The Reserve Merlot

March 3, 2018

Appellation: Horse Heaven Hills

The success of Ste. Michelle Wine Estate’s fastest-growing brand goes beyond its flagship Hot to Trot red blend as winemaker Keith Kenison saddles up one of Washington's top expressions of Merlot. Notes of blueberry jam, President plum and Bing cherry carry the remarkable backbone of minerality that’s a thumbprint of so many wines from the Horse Heaven Hills. Its substantial tannins will soften in the cellar. It used a gold medal at the Tri-Cities Wine Festival to gain entry into the 2017 Platinum Judging for Wine Press Northwest, where it earned a Platinum award. The Reserve tier is limited to sales out of the tasting room at the base of the Horse Heaven Hills in Prosser or online.

Rating: Outstanding! by Wine Press Northwest. (14.5% alc.)

Price: $30

Production: 622 cases

Food pairings: Serve with prime rib, veal parmigiana, porcini risotto or lamb shank.
