Appellation: Horse Heaven Hills
The family behind Wine Press Northwest's 2016 Washington Winery of the Year continues to produce some of the region's top wines, and their recently released Cab serves as yet another delicious example. Five vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills played roles in this, including famed Spice Cabinet, which also supplied the Syrah (9%). Classic aromas of dark cherry, blackcurrant, cocoa powder and cinnamon dust are joined on the palate by plum and vanilla. Ageworthy tannins akin to black cherry skins and raspberry acidity make for a long finish. Prosser native Jeremy Santo continues the winery's ties to Washington State University as the Pullman grad recently took over the winemaking from WSU alumna and Richland native Jessica Munnell. And the Mercers now operate tasting rooms on both sides of the state - Prosser and Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood.
