Maryhill Winery 2014 Sangiovese

May 20, 2017

Appellation: Columbia Valley

Napa-trained Richard Batchelor continues to cement his reputation as one of the Pacific Northwest’s top winemakers with his string of gold medals for Maryhill Winery. The New Zealand native’s latest bottling of Sangiovese for the Leutholds’ “Classic” lineup is another remarkable effort. Fruit sources such as nearby Gunkel Vineyard along the Columbia River and Tudor Hill Vineyard in the Yakima Valley have helped make this one of the region’s best examples of this lively Italian variety year after year, and this expression offers a theme of dusty raspberry and Van cherry with chalky tannins, cranberry acidity and white pepper. This was one of four Maryhill wines to merit a double gold at the 2017 Cascadia International Wine Competition.

Rated “Outstanding!” by Great Northwest Wine. (14.5% alc.)
