Palencia Wine Co. 2012 Sauvignon Blanc

November 11, 2013

Appellation: Columbia Valley

Victor Palencia, winemaker for the 2012 Washington Winery of the Year by Wine Press Northwest, grew up not far from the historic Otis Vineyard in Grandview that created this wine for his own Walla Walla-based winery. There are classic gooseberry, grassy and Granny Smith apple aromas, followed by a clean entry of green apple and Limeade. His use 500-liter Hungarian oak puncheons created a remarkable roundness on the midpalate, which led to a zingy and lingering finish. Rated "Outstanding" by Great Northwest Wine. (12.9 percent alcohol)

Price: $18

Cases produced: 116

Food pairings: Halibut, grilled chicken, scallops, clam chowder or pasta primavera will pair beautifully with this deliciously steely white wine.
