Fans of Red Mountain brave storm

October 14, 2013

Benton City, WA - Wind gust up to 30 miles per hour and periodic rain showers did little to dampen attendance at the second annual Red Mountain AVA Block Party held on the mountain Sept. 28.

According to Red Mountain AVA Alliance Executive Director more than 380 ticket holders, sponsors and journalists participated in the day-long event which drew guests from across the country. Unwin said the attendee list included wine lovers from New Jersey, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Colorado, Texas and California with more than a dozen coming from the San Francisco area.

In addition to sampling wine at the 13 participating Red Mountain wineries guests were able to meet wine makers and participate in a variety of educational events.

Participants learned the characteristics of different vintages while tasting through a six-year vertical of Cabernet Sauvignon at Terra Blanca Winery & Estate Vineyard with owner Keith Pilgrim; learned about pairing wine with different food and cheeses at Hedges Family Estate and Frichette Winery; learned about aromas in wines at Ambassador Vineyard; sampled wine styles crafted by Fidelitas wine maker Charlie Hoppes from different vineyards; learned what goes into creating a Red Mountain Bordeaux style red at Kiona Vineyards and Winery and more.
