Pontin del Roza 2009 Angelo Pontin Sangiovese

August 5, 2013

Appellation: Yakima Valley

Owner/winemaker Scott Pontin’s winery started as an FFA project in high school. Almost three decades later, he’s still going strong on his Prosser farm. This wine is named for his grandfather, who emigrated from Italy. This was the top Sangiovese of our judging, showing off inviting aromas of cherry, chocolate and oak, followed by big, dark, chewy flavors of rich red and dark fruit. It’s all supported with balanced tannins and acids, making it an attractive and well-managed red. Rated “Outstanding” by Great Northwest Wine. (13.8 percent alcohol).

Price: $21.

Cases produced: 150.

Food matches: Enjoy this with a hearty plate of pasta in a red sauce or lasagna.
