Naches Heights Vineyard 2010 Two Coyote Vineyard Mourvédrè

Appellation: Yakima Valley

Phil Cline runs this winery in one of Washington’s newest and smallest American Viticultural Areas. For this superb red wine, Cline brought in grapes from Two Coyote, a 13-acre vineyard planted in 2004 near Zillah. Vanilla caramel, black cherry and blackberry in the nose are augmented by red currants and pomegranate on the palate. Chocolate, graphite-like minerality and solid tannins augment its finish, creating a wine that calls for a few more analytical sips. This won a gold medal at the Great Northwest Wine Competition. (14.7 percent alcohol)

Price: $38.

Cases produced: Pair with barbecued ribs, brats or dishes that highlight mushrooms or lentils.
