Westport Winery NV Rapture of the Deep

March 26, 2013

Appellation: Washington

Westport Winery is a young producer on the Washington coast near Aberdeen. The winery makes more than 35 different wines, has an on-site restaurant and bakery and has even planted wine grape vines just eight miles from the beach. Even if you would normally turn your nose up at fruit wines, do not discount this sparkling cranberry wine. The spitz of the dissolved carbon dioxide and the cranberry’s natural bite nicely offset the abundant sugar. This won a gold medal and best fruit wine at the Great Northwest Wine Competition (www.greatnorthwestwine.com).

Price: $26.

Cases produced: 126.

Food matches: Pair it with a picnic, a brunch or pour it over fruit on a warm, laid-back summer day.
