Thurston Wolfe 2010 Lonesome Springs Vineyard Sweet Rebecca

Published: February 26, 2013

Appellation: Yakima Valley

Every member of the family at Thurston Wolfe has a wine named after them (even Chance the dog). The wines named after the two people most responsible for our 2012 Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year -- owners Wade Wolfe and Becky Yeaman — earned Platinums in our competition this year. This is a fortified dessert wine made with Orange Muscat, and it is a beauty. It opens with aromas of orange marmalade, lemon cream cookies and a bit of lime zest. On the palate, it offers gorgeous flavors of orange cream sherbet. It’s difficult to believe this is 16 percent alcohol, and the bright acidity keeps the 12 percent residual sugar in check. Rated Outstanding by GreatNorthwestWine.com.

Price: $13.

Cases produced: 176 cases.

Food matches: This is a delicious meal ender, so enjoy with cheesecake, an apple tart or crème brûlée.
