RICHLAND — Goose Ridge Estate Vineyards & Winery is offering some August bargains, borrowing a longtime strategy of the Washington State liquor stores.
The liquor stores are waiting until September for their big sale of Washington wines.
But Goose Ridge is filling in by marking down its 2007 Chardonnay from $18 to $14 and down to $10 if purchased by the case. A case of chardonnay for $120 is worth considering.
It gets even better. Their food-friendly 2007 dry-style Riesling, which regularly sells for $14, is marked down to $8, and if you buy a case, it's $5 a bottle.
Don't want to buy a whole case for yourself? Go in with a couple of friends and divide up the wine. It's a great way to save money on wine purchases.
These discounts are available only at the tasting room, which is along Dallas Road outside Richland.
Goose Ridge, a large operation, makes wine for its own labels and others at a new winemaking facility out in the vineyards. Charlie Hoppes, who owns Fidelitas Winery, makes the Goose Ridge wines and its second label, Stonecap wines, which retail for $8.99 to $9.99.
The newly expanded tasting room has added space and charm to the old digs, complete with a fireplace and overstuffed chairs for relaxing while tasting wine. There is also a nice lawn area with great views of the vineyards.
