August is Washington Wine Month at state liquor stores, which means bargain shoppers can pick up a case or two of their favorite wines at some of the year's best prices.
For the past several years, the wine month sale has been in September, but this year it has returned to August.
Not only are wines discounted by between 50 cents up to a whopping $4 a bottle, but if the wine is purchased in a case lot, the traditional 10 percent discount is also subtracted from the total. You can mix or match wines to build a case, even counting a 1.5-liter bottle of Farron Ridge white or red table wine as two bottles toward a 12-bottle case. That would make the Farron Ridge $4.50, which comes out to $2.25 per regular-size 750-milliliter bottle.
Not all the liquor stores will have all the wines featured during the month, but Tri-City stores make a concerted attempt to get as much as possible and put up attractive displays. If a store doesn't have your favorite wine in stock, you can ask the clerk to try to get you some.
