    Tuesday September 02 2008

2 wine classes on tap at WSU Tri-Cities

Learn the geologic history of wine and sample some holiday recipes at two wine-oriented seminars at Washington State University Tri-Cities.

The first, Washington Geologic History and Wine, is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 11. Cost is $30.

Alan Busacca, a WSU professor emeritus and well-known geologist, will discuss how Washington's geology has influenced the wine industry. He is author of the PBS program "Get the Dirt on Washington Wine" and is the geologist responsible for gaining American Viticultural Area recognition for Washington AVAs including Red Mountain and the Wahluke Slope.

Students also will join Busacca and winemaker Robert Smasne in a comparison and tasting of barrel samples and finished wines from different growing regions in the state.

The second, Holiday Entertaining with Wine, is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 8. Wine educator and consultant Linda Moran and several winemakers will share their holiday recipes and the wines to sip with them. There will be several wines to sample including two of Moran's spiced wines. Cost is $25.

Both classes will be held on the WSU Tri-Cities campus, 2770 University Drive, Richland. Go to Room 216, upstairs in the Consolidated Information Center.

To register, call 372-7394, e-mail aphilip@tricity.wsu.edu or visit www.tricity.wsu.edu/wine. Deadline is three business days before each class.

Participants must be 21 years or older.
